Marriage Equality
A MESSAGE FROM JILL METZ
Marriage Equality Is Here!
It is a day for celebrating! Today, June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision in Obergefell v Hodges that marriage equality is the law of the land. Our country has been built on the concepts of liberty, equality and justice. Today the U.S. Supreme Court added another group of people who can enjoy this right of equality.
In its decision, the Court noted: “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. They [the petitioners] ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”
Couples across the country will now breathe a bit easier and enjoy fewer worries in facing everyday life complications because they can get married. Families in all 50 states are now able to create the legal relationships of spouses, step-parents, and in-laws.
Sincerely,
Jill M. Metz, Esq.
